The starting point for the entire room. The deep blue velvet gives you a huge hit of color and makes the inexpensive sofa feel far more elevated than its price tag. Against the burgundy, olive and warm wood tones, it becomes the anchor for the whole palette.
Accent Chair
This is the piece that keeps the room from feeling too safe. The rich merlot color plays beautifully against the blue sofa, while the chunky curved silhouette makes it feel like a much more expensive designer find.

Design Takeaway
Affordable doesn't have to mean basic.
The reason this room looks more expensive than it is comes down to the mix: saturated color, contrasting shapes, layered patterns, warm wood and artwork that doesn't look like it came from one matching set.
Instead of spending the budget on one hero piece, I spread it across the room and let color + styling do the expensive-looking work.
